the south, from kentucky, has always been critical of the nra, long before he became a member of congress. he is he has an f rating from the nra. as he told us yesterday and more and more people recognize this. one of the reasons you see so many republicans and democrats, they may not be willing to stand up to grover norquist but they are willing to stand up to the nra and the reason they are is because they recognize two things about the nra now, which hadn't really come to light before. number 1 is, it's no longer what we used to thing of it as just a nice grass roots organization where people who like to go hunting with their kids, you know, maybe collect some guns. just law-abiding gun owners johnny six-shooter representing them. no. no. the nra is a big gun manufacturer's lobby. they have become really the front for the gun manufacturers of the country, those who are manufacturing the guns that are killing our kids. there is a recent study out that showed since 2005, the nra got $53 million from its corporate partners 74% of those corporate partners either

be in legal trouble following the sunday interview with the nra ceo wayne lapierre. he held up a 30-round gun magazine in the segment but it could have violated d.c. gun laws that read no person in the district shall possess, sell, transfer any large capacity ammunition feeding device regardless of whether the device is attached to a firearm. the "washington post" reports that nbc sought permission from authorities to use it but was denied. the d.c. police chief said we are investigating incident to determine if the magazine was in fact real. >>> one loud critic of the u.s. gun law is cnn host piers morgan. some in the u.s. are ready to send the british citizen packing. over 80,000 people signed requests on the white house petition site to deport morgan for engaging in "hostile attack" against the constitution targeting the second amendment. white house requires 25,000 signatures to garner a response. on twitter, more gone asked if i do get deported from america for wanting fewer gun murders are there any other countries that will have me? one of the host of the bbc show "top gear" jumped in

it done? >> well, they probably don't have the votes today. it will be interesting to see what the nra who is going to be making press announcements tomorrow start to say and whether they start letting some members off the hook on assault weapons bans. i don't know if they will, but i can tell you this. the nra has four million members. you know, the campaigns like mayors against illegal guns and others, within a few weeks they are going to have four million members. this is just not going to be tolerated in the same way anymore. and senators like scott brown may end up being kind of the first test on this. he made that crafty statement because he opposed a federal bill in the past. >> you mean the state should have the responsibility. >> right. but he knew as a senator that it was never going to pass. he was the number one recipient of nra money in his campaign over this last year. a lot of senators are going to find themselves in the cross hairs because of taking all of that money and when he comes back to -- tries to come back to the senate, that may very well be a big issue. >> like jo

your home. this is an area where unfortunately the political debate, and you bring in the nra, is so removed from the basic common sense of most americans who understand that if you are responsible, careful, and you are not disturbed, you should be allowed to have weapons that are appropriate. our society is a wash with weapons. different states have different laws. it is not that hard to go to virginia from connecticut, by a weapon and bring it back. of course you are violating a law, but if we do not have that discussion, we have this incredibly disappointing and disheartening grief of -- outpouring of grief followed by no action. host: in "the washington post" we have this online he says -- do you think battle lines are being drawn, as to how democrats and republicans are going to respond to this in the new year? well, it is not just democrats and republicans. this is a debate where democratic people believe there should be no more gun control laws. to some extent, kathy is right, the laws are there. they were here in the state of connecticut. the assault weapon was not legal in t
